19 May 2010 - The Philippine Embassy in Canada reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Philippines successfully participated in the 2010 Canadian Tulip Festival held at the Major's Hill Park in Ottawa from May 14 to 24.

The Embassy spearheaded the country's participation in the well-attended and successful event.

The Philippine participation was highlighted at the Food Pavilion that featured famous Filipino traditional cuisine by two Filipino-Canadian food caterers in Ottawa, who served pansit, pork barbecue, lumpia, carioca, and other Filipino delicacies.

The Pamana Cultural Dance Troupe in Ottawa also entertained approximately 3,000 spectators and visitors with a 30-minute rendition of Barrio Fiesta cultural dances.

The International Pavilion featured cuisine, music and crafts from more than 30 countries.

The Canadian Tulip Festival is part of Canadian heritage and celebrates the country's bonds with the Netherlands.

The Festival started from the gift of tulips to Canada by the Dutch Royal Family following the liberation of Europe in the Second World War.

More than one million tulips bloom in Ottawa and Gatineau during spring. END
