28 July 2010 - The Philippine Embassy in Vatican held a series of meetings to find ways  to alleviate  the problems  experienced by the youth  in Rome.

This was initiated by Philippine Ambassador Mercedes A. Tuason along with the Filipino youth ministry of the Couples for Christ (CFC), led by Mr. Ryan Asinas and their spiritual director, Monsignor Jerry Bitoon.

Many of these youths were raised in the Philippines without  their parents and were brought  to Italy before the age of 18 to study or look for jobs.

Most of the children experienced culture shock, some would rebel against their parents and would rather stay away from their homes, while others hang out at the Termini and succumb to drugs.

The CFC youth ministry, which has many laudable projects that need to be encouraged and supported, has undertaken the task of integrating the youth back to society through events like sportsfest and weekend youth camps.

Through this, the youth can form lasting friendship with one another, share ideas and experiences in fun and wholesome environment and where Christian values are openly talked about and actively practiced.

The Embassy, together with the Philippine establishments operating in Rome such as the Landbank, Metro Bank, Banco de Oro, Bank of the Philippine Islands and the Philippine National Bank agreed to form "Bantay Kabataan" to provide the youth with the facility to sustain the formation programs.

The youth camp is held twice a year and together, they will find ways and means to provide the necessary support to continue and create other worthwhile events.  END
