18 March 2011- The Philippine Embassy in London reported that "Pamalican Island", a new children's fantasy book by British author Emma Excell was launched at the Embassy on March 14.
The book was inspired by the real Pamalican Island in Palawan.
In his welcome remarks, Philippine Chargé d'Affaires Reynaldo Catapang expressed delight that Ms. Excell found inspiration from the real Pamalican Island."This in itself speaks of the beauty of the place," he said.
The island and its creatures were then imagined into the setting and the characters of the book.
Ms. Excell conceived her story six years ago during a family holiday to the Philippines. Her children were amazed by the indigenous wildlife at their beach resort, particularly the bayawak (monitor lizard). END
