Philippine Consulate General in Agana Inaugurates Rizal Reading Room

25 June 2011 -The Philippine Consulate General in Agana reported that as part of the activities commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, it inaugurated its Jose Rizal Reading Room last June 22.

Consul General Bayani S. Mercado and First Lady of Guam Christine Calvo led the ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the mini-library to the public.

Agana_Rizal_Room_Picture2The Reading Room houses a collection of books, mostly from donations made by Filipino associations, such as the Laguna Association of Guam, and individual donors on the island.

The collection consists of selected works on Dr. Jose Rizal, biographies on other heroes and Philippine presidents, books on Philippine art, culture and cuisine; and other reference materials, including English-Filipino dictionaries.

Facsimile copies of the original manuscripts of Dr. Rizal's Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo donated by the National Historical Institute are also part of the collection.

The Reading Room is now open to the public, Mondays thru Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. END
