PHL Consulate General in Hong Kong Celebrates Dr. Jose Rizal’s Birth Anniversary

28 June 2011 - The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal on June 19.

Hongkong_Rizal_Picture2Rizal lived in Hong Kong for six months from 1891 to 1892.

Jointly organized with the University of the Philippines Alumni Association and Lakbay Dangal, more than 40 participants joined a hike from Hong Kong Park Olympic Square to Victoria Peak and then back to Central.

Wreath-laying ceremonies were held at Rednaxela Terrace and D'Aguilar Street, Dr. Rizal's residence and clinic, respectively.

Lakbay Dangal gave a historical walking tour of Dr. Rizal's daily route.

In the afternoon, the public viewed the film of the acclaimed director Marilou Diaz Abaya, Jose Rizal, at the Consulate General's Conference Room.

Finally, renowned historian Fr. Javier de Pedro spoke at length on the life of Josephine Bracken and her relationship with Dr. Rizal. END
