12 March 2010 - The Philippine Consulate-General in Honolulu reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Hawaii Filipino Women's Club celebrated its 56th Anniversary and the 36th Annual Terno Ball on March 6 at Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu.

In his remarks, Philippine Consul-General to Honolulu Leoncio R. Cardenas lauded the organization for its many commendable humanitarian projects and for its members' individual achievements that helped uplift the prestige of Filipino women in Hawaii.

Highlighting community service as its ongoing concern, the Hawaii Filipino Women's Club recognizes achievements of Filipino Community organizations by awarding them with "Outstanding Community Service and Volunteerism Certificates."

The 2010 Honorees for Volunteerism and Community Service were the Annac ti Badoc iti Hawaii, the Annak ti Batac of Hawaii, the Bulacan Circle and Associates, Fames, Himig at Indak, the Pasuquinio Association of Hawaii and the Sinait National H.S. Alumni Association of Hawaii.

The event also featured one the Philippines' most famous and visible symbols, the elegant Filipina Terno.

In a long-held tradition, contestants in their elegant ternos vie for the annual Miss Terno based on the strict criteria of an authentic ensemble of fine traditional material with butterfly sleeves and decorative details.

In a red embroidered terno, Ms. Armi Farinas bested 42 contestants for the Miss Terno Award for 2010.   END
