FIRST PARALEGAL SEMINAR ON HONG KONG LAW HELD AT PHILIPPINE CONSULATE

12 August 2008 - The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong SAR has reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs on the successful conduct of a Paralegal Seminar on Hong Kong law held on 20 July 2008 at the Consulate. The seminar was an initiative of the Consulate's Legal Section and Assistance to Nationals Section and aimed to provide the Filipino community with basic knowledge on relevant Hong Kong laws.

 

The lecturer at the seminar was Mr. Melville Thomas Charles Boase, a solicitor and notary and consultant of the Hong Kong law firm Boase, Cohen & Collins with almost 30 years of experience in Hong Kong. Mr. Boase has been rendering legal assistance to Filipinos in Hong Kong for several years now and is married to a Filipina, Linda Boase.

 

The three-hour lecture during the seminar focused on immigration and employment ordinances, the judicial system and courts of Hong Kong, criminal procedures and rights of the accused, probate and common law claims, and marriage.

 

The Paralegal Seminar was well attended by members of the Filipino community including members of Philippine media in Hong Kong SAR. Upon the seminars conclusion, Consul General Alejandrino Vicente presented a plaque of appreciation to Mr. Boase for his efforts in providing legal assistance to Filipino nationals in Hong Kong. - END
