28 November 2013 - Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Patricia Licuanan and non-resident Ambassador of Poland to the Philippines Adam Jelonek signed the Memorandum on Understanding on Cooperation in Higher Education on November 27, highlighting the 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Witnessing the singing was Assistant Secretary for European Affairs, Hon. Maria Zeneida Angara Collinson and CHED Commissioner Dr. Ruperto Sangalang.
Initiated in July 2012, the agreement contributes positively in further improving the standards of higher education for both countries and in enriching the experience of experts, practitioners and students in this field. The agreement also supports existing linkages that have just been initiated between selected private institutions of higher learning in Poland and the Philippines.
Poland is also currently funding the renovation of the St. Michael Institute for Lifelong Education (SMILE) in Amarillo St., Makati City. The school is managed by Mr. Josef Zarach of the Polish Society of the Philippines. A separate allocation was made to finance a Polish language program by the institute.
