DFA Consular Office in La Union Attends Management of the Dead and Missing Meeting on Repatriation of Remains of Overseas Filipinos

LA UNION 09 July 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office in La Union  participated in the Management of the Dead and Missing (MDM) cluster meeting on the repatriation of remains of overseas Filipinos at the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 1, City of San Fernando, La Union on 07 July 2020.

The meeting was organized by DILG Region 1 with the aim to prepare all concerned government agencies in ensuring the implementation of appropriate infection prevention and control and to uphold public health and safety, in relation to the repatriation of remains of overseas Filipinos. It is in line with Memorandum Circular No. 2020-23 of the Department of Health - Bureau of Quarantine (DOH - BOQ) on the “Interim Guidelines for the Admission of Human Remains into the Philippines during the Time of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic”.

The event was attended by officials and representatives of various regional agencies, such as, the Department of Health-Bureau of Quarantine (DOH-BOQ), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Local Government Units (LGUs). The Consular Office in La Union was represented by Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Officer Venia Lee R. Pacupac.

DILG Director James F. Fadrillan presided over the meeting which formulated strategic action plan on the pre-arrival, arrival, and post-arrival of the remains of overseas Filipinos in Region 1. DILG-Local Government Monitoring Evaluation Division Chief Rhodora G. Soriano discussed the interim guidelines for the admission of human remains into the Philippines, directives on the repatriation of remains of overseas Filipinos and assistance to bereaved families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director Fadrillan expressed his appreciation for the support of all agencies which participated in the meeting. END
