DFA Consular Office in La Union Joins Meeting on International Migration, Development in Region 1

LA UNION 16 July 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in La Union participated in the Regional Social Development Committee (RSDC) Sub-Committee on International Migration and Development (SCIMD) Region 1 First Regular Meeting 2020 via Zoom video conferencing on 08 July 2020.
The meeting, organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 1, was attended by 25 regional directors and representatives from various government agencies, namely: the Department of Education (DEPED), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Commission on Human Rights (CHR), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Philippine National Police - Crime and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). A representative of the La Union Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives also joined the meeting. The Consular Office was represented by its Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Officer Ms. Venia Lee R. Pacupac.
DOLE Assistant Director Honorina Dian-Baga presided over the meeting which tackled the “OFW Tulong sa Pag-unlad” project, updates on COVID-19 recovery plan and activities, “Balik-Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa” program, Regional Development Report 2019, and other related matters.
NEDA Senior Economic Development Specialist Rey B. Ferreria presented the Region 1 Recovery Program for COVID-19 which envisions the theme “Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Buhay para sa Lahat.” The recovery plan is aimed at creating safe, adaptive, and resilient communities in the region during their transition to the “new normal”.
DOLE Assistant Director Dian-Baga expressed her appreciation for the support of all agencies which participated in the above-mentioned meeting. END
