DFA Consular Office in Tacloban Celebrates World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
TACLOBAN 03 August 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office (CO) in Tacloban joined the nation in commemorating the 2020 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (WDAT) on 30 July 2020 with the theme “Isang Bayan, Isang Paninindigan, Laban sa Trafficking ng Mamamayan”.
CO Tacloban personnel, work from home staff and clients all sang along with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) all-female version of the National Anthem on 30 July 2020.
Amidst challenges faced due to COVID-19, other global problems remain such as Trafficking in Persons. In an effort to raise awareness on the alarming spike of cases of human trafficking in the Philippines, CO Tacloban installed a photo gallery exhibit that highlights different forms of Trafficking in Persons and its statistical data of cases in the country.
CO Tacloban also presented videos to the consular clients. Among the videos shown were the DFA’s Infomercial on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and the launch of the Integrated Case Management System jointly developed by IACAT and Ople Center as a monitoring tool to ensure prompt action on OFW trafficking cases.
To maximize dissemination, CO Tacloban distributed IEC materials on Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 (RA 9208) as amended by the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012 (RA 10364). Round fans and alcohol with human trafficking action line number were given to clients. Consular Office Tacloban staff actively participated in WDAT social media campaign by using IACAT’s 2020 WDAT Facebook Frame. END
