TACLOBAN CITY 03 September 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Tacloban concluded its digital “Padayon Kita” series in celebration of the Buwan ng Wika at Kasaysayan in the month of August 2020.
The Consular Office kicked-off its celebration with a poetry reading as the first installation of the “Padayon Kita” series. On the second Friday of the month, the Consular Office featured stories inherited by this generation from its ancestors and that portrayed their beliefs, values, and way of life. Stories that were read included “Ang Pambihirang Buhok ni Lola” and “Ang Matsing at ang Pagong”. After the story reading, fun facts on the Wikang Filipino, as part of the #Wikaalaman information drive, were also shared and discussed.
In the third week of August, the Consular Office presented original Filipino music as a way to simultaneously celebrate the Linggo ng Orihinal na Musikang Flipino. Songs that were played and performed were “Bagani” and “Tatsulok”, respectively. Bagani, being the official theme song for the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines, was played also as a way to join the nation in the countdown to next year’s quincentennial events. The second song, Tatsulok, was performed by the Consular Office’s very own employees, Fina Edrienne Sanico and Joemark Villarez (link: https://youtu.be/UgthCO1ZBuc).
Finally, in the last week of the month, the Consular Office honored the country’s national heroes as part of the celebration of the Araw ng mga Bayani on 31 August 2020. Stories of two national heroes, Lapu-Lapu and Apolinario Mabini, were shared and discussed. The story of Lapu-Lapu was especially picked for the 500th Anniversary of the Mactan Victory next year, as part of the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations. At the end of the program, Ms. Dianne Leslie Sulit re-echoed highlights of the seminar, “Sulat Sinauna: Talakayan Tungkol sa mga Sinaunang Sulat ng Bansa” and discussed the essential points of the ancient Philippine indigenous script, Baybayin.
Overall, the “Padayon Kita” series was especially organized not only for the annual celebrations done in the month of August but also to continually stir full awareness and enjoin everyone to embrace their rich Filipino identity. END
