06 May 2014 - The Philippines has expressed its sorrow and offered its condolences to the Korean people on the tragic accident involving the MV Sewol.

In his letter to Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se of the Republic of Korea, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario extended his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and friends of the victims. He likewise reiterated the Philippines continued solidarity with the Korean people in this difficult time.

On April 20, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul joined members of the Filipino community in Korea in the KAISA Day of Prayer for Korea to offer songs, comfort, prayers and flowers to the victims of the ferry sinking. The gathering was held at Hwarang Park in Ansan City, hometown of most of the casualties. Filipino mourners later proceeded to Danwon High School, where they offered flowers to the deceased. END
