PH Embassy in Yangon Conducts Online Briefing on Overseas Filipino Bank for Filipinos in Myanmar

YANGON 24 September 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, in cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank), and Land Bank of the Philippines conducted a Virtual Briefing on the Overseas Filipino Bank for Filipino men and women in Myanmar on 23 September 2020 via Google Meet platform.  A total of 56 Filipinos and Embassy personnel attended the briefing.

Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Eduardo E. Kapunan, Jr., in his welcome remarks pointed out that the main concern and difficulty of Filipinos in Myanmar is remitting money to the Philippines. He emphasized that he hopes that OF Bank could provide Filipinos with more options that can help facilitate easier but effective and secure means of banking. Ambassador Kapunan also mentioned that the Embassy will endeavor to conduct more webinars on similar topics to assist the Filipinos in Myanmar.

President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OFBank Leila Martin explained the background of OFBank and the products it can offer Filipinos overseas and their beneficiaries. Ms. Martin and OFBank Development Manager Mr. Jose Emmanuel Valdez discussed how Filipinos can open an account and avail of loans. They also discussed the different options that Filipinos can remit money efficiently to their loved ones through OFBank and how the bank ensures the security of the accounts. According to Ms. Martin, OFBank is more convenient and can be accessed anywhere around the globe because it is a digital-only bank. END
