CAGAYAN DE ORO 06 October 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Cagayan de Oro’s personnel completed an eight-day Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) training conducted by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) from 14 to 23 September 2020.
The Assistance-to-Nationals course was designed to equip ATN officers the necessary knowledge and skills in assisting overseas Filipinos by introducing them to basic ATN procedures and immersing them in critical cases encountered by ATN officers through several workshops. It also tackled Philippine laws and policies affecting Filipino migrant workers.
The capacity building course proved relevant with the surging number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) needing counseling and assistance regarding issues in their workplaces and their host countries.
The resource speakers were from relevant government offices and private institutions such as DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA), DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns (UCSCC), Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), Aspiring Visions Inc., and Women and Gender Institute – Miriam College.
