CAGAYAN DE ORO 06 October 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Cagayan de Oro, represented by Ms. Charity Tagucon, Ms. Flora Mae Bitor, Ms. Asmiah Azis, and Mr. Sandro Granada, joined the Climate Change Seminar conducted by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) on 29 to 30 September 2020. 

The 10-hour seminar provided the participants with knowledge on the formulation of environmental policies and understanding of the causes and elements of global warming, and the global issues emanating from such phenomena. Local and international laws, conventions, agreements, and other legal initiatives related to climate were also discussed during the seminar.

The webinar focused on the impacts of Climate Change on public health, national security, and the Philippine economy. It also emphasized the role of several government agencies such as the Climate Change Commission, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), among others, in the country’s mitigation and adaptation strategies to minimize the effects of Climate Change as stipulated in the Philippine Development Plan.

The participants were also introduced to Sustainable Development, crisis management, and disaster risk reduction. END
