DFA Consular Office Tacloban Participates in the Webinar on Constitutional Reform, Bida ang may Disiplina Orientation
TACLOBAN 22 October 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office in Tacloban participated in the Webinar on "Constitutional Reform (CORE) and Bida ang may Disiplina Orientation" organized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office VIII held on 12 October 2020 via Zoom. It was attended by representatives from various government agencies, educational institutions, and DILG personnel.
The webinar was organized to inform and orient regional government offices on the DILG’s CORE campaign and its proposed amendments to the Philippine Constitution.
The first part of the webinar introduced the Disiplina Campaign and emphasized an individual's active role in the fight against COVID-19 through practicing BIDA (Bawal walang mask; I-sanitize ang mga kamay; Dumistansya ng isang metro; and Alamin ang totoong impormasyon).
This was followed by a discussion of the CORE Movement and its three pillars: (1) "Pagyamanin ang Probinsya, Paluwagin ang Metro Manila"; (2) "Gobyerno Para sa Tao, Hindi Para sa Trapo"; and (3) "Bukas na Ekonomiya nang lahat ay may Pag-asa". The CORE Movement has been proposing the empowerment of regions by transforming the Regional Development Council; institutionalization of provisions to give LGUs equal share with the national government of the internal revenue income, key political and economic reforms to equalize opportunities for elective posts, and opening up of the economy to foreign investments that are currently limited in the 1987 Constitution. The role of civil society organizations in the reforms under the CORE Movement was also discussed.
In his closing message, Officer in Charge-Assistant Regional Director of DILG Region VIII Atty. Darwin N. Bibar shared that the knowledge of one individual is not enough and that people must act collectively and be clarified about the benefits of Constitutional Reform. END
