DFA Consular Office in Tacloban Participates in the Cyber Security Awareness Webinar, Conducts Re-echo Session for Its Personnel
TACLOBAN 22 October 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Tacloban participated in the Cyber Security Awareness Webinar entitled “Securing the Pandemic – Disrupted Workplace”, organized by the DFA - Office of Asset Management and Support Services (OAMSS) in partnership with Trend Micro Philippines on 07 October 2020,
The webinar series was attended via Zoom by over 150 DFA personnel from various Foreign Service Posts (FSPs), Consular Offices (COs), and offices in the Home Office.
The webinar aimed to increase awareness on the current cybersecurity threats encountered everyday especially during the pandemic as organizations and offices shifted to work-from-home arrangement. Attendees learned about recent ransomware trends and best practices to defend against current and future cyber threats.
According to Trend Micro Philippines Country Manager, Mr. Ian Felipe, “There are a lot of security risks right now and these layers of threats mean you need layers of security. Your antivirus is definitely not enough to protect you. Security is now everybody’s responsibility.”
CO Tacloban conducted a re-echo session to all its personnel during its weekly meeting on 16 October 2020 via Google Meet to further highlight the relevance of cybersecurity awareness in the workplace. CO Tacloban's IT Officer John Marc H. Brosas discussed current cyber security threats and shared some best practices in avoiding these threats.
The re-echo session was intended to equip CO Tacloban's personnel with the relevant information to address security challenges brought about by remote work and implementation of alternative work arrangements. END
