CAGAYAN DE ORO 24 October 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Cagayan de Oro joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the adoption of the Charter of the United Nations in a week-long celebration from 19 to 23 October 2020.

The CO commenced the celebration with the launching of the Explainer Video it produced immediately after the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, 19 September 2020. The video features the indispensable role of the United Nations and its principal organs – the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, International Court of Justice, among others – in tackling pressing issues confronting the world in the 21st Century such as peace and security, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergencies, gender equality, climate change, human rights, food security, and more. The 2-minute video, which includes information referenced from the UN website (un.org) and the videos on UN’s official YouTube channel, was shown at the reception area of the office throughout the week with the goal of raising awareness about the UN among its clientele.

As part of the CO’s celebration of the UN Day, a number of its personnel attended a webinar entitled “In Larger Freedom: 75 Years of the Philippines and the Charter of the United Nations,” conducted by the Department’s Office of Treaties and Legal Affairs (OTLA) on 22 October 2020. The webinar highlighted the Philippines’ contribution to the United Nations – particularly how the country has faithfully implemented and contributed to the UN Charter – and the Global Community.

The CO’s reception area was decorated with flaglets of UN member countries and small banners bearing the word “Hello” in different languages, including the official languages of the organization, for its clients to appreciate multilateralism and cultural diversity. It also set-up a photobooth where clients and personnel had the opportunity to take their photos with UN-inspired props. END
