DFA Consular Office in Tacloban Virtually Celebrates National Indigenous Peoples’ Month

Tacloban IP Month 1

TACLOBAN 02 November 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Tacloban celebrated the National Indigenous Peoples’ Month through an online activity held on 30 October 2020.

A discussion of the different Indigenous Peoples groups living in the Philippines, as well as their customs and cultural traditions happened via Google Meet, with participation by both on-duty and work from home (WFH) CO staff. The event also highlighted the importance of recognizing and promoting the rights of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples in the country.

The activity provided an opportunity for the CO personnel to gain comprehensive knowledge on safeguarding and reinvigorating intangible cultural heritage intended to raise cultural awareness, advance cultural sensitivity, and nurture sustainable development-orientation.

The initiative also forms part of CO’s commitment for continuous staff learning and growth amid all the constraints brought by the pandemic. END
