DFA Sends Home 29 Repatriates from Manado, Indonesia in Time for Christmas

GENERAL SANTOS CITY 15 December 2020 – Another repatriation involving 29 Filipino fishermen was successfully coordinated by the Philippine Consulate General in Manado, Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) - Consular Office in General Santos (CO GenSan) on 13 December 2020. The repatriates, who were all from Mindanao, were sent home aboard the Indonesian-flagged vessel, MV-Gloria 28, and arrived at the Port of General Santos in the afternoon of 14 December 2020.
With the cooperation, generosity and full support of government and private agencies, the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) team of the Consular Office coordinated with the Philippine Ports Authority – Port Management Office SocSarGen, Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ), Bureau of Immigration (BI), Bureau of Customs (BOC), Stella Maris GenSan, and the local government unit (LGU) of General Santos to guarantee the safety and well-being of the repatriated Filipinos before sending them to their respective hometowns in Mindanao.
In compliance with health protocols, all repatriates underwent RT-PCR testing and are set to continue the 14-day quarantine in designated isolation facilities prepared by the local governments of General Santos City, Davao City, Jose Abad Santos and Sarangani of Davao Occidental, Mati and Governor Generoso of Davao Oriental, Glan of Sarangani Province, and Zamboanga Province, before they can return to their families.
The third repatriation brings the total count of stranded fishermen repatriated in North Sulawesi, Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic to 120, further reaffirming DFA’s commitment to protect the welfare of Filipinos overseas. END
