DFA Brings Home Stranded Filipinos From Bahrain, Lebanon and Syria in Time for New Year
30 December 2020 – DFA welcomed the arrival on December 29 of 285 overseas Filipinos from Bahrain, Lebanon and Syria, under the assisted repatriation program of the Philippine Embassies in Manama, Beirut and Damascus, respectively, in coordination with the DFA's Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs.
The 285 overseas Filipinos repatriated via chartered flight are composed of 29 Filipinos from Bahrain including 3 infants, 253 Filipinos from Beirut, and 3 Filipinos from Syria. Amidst the pandemic, the repatriates returned to the country with happiness as they are reunited with their families in time for the New Year.
As we close the year 2020, the latest arrival brings to 323,436 the total number of distressed overseas Filipinos brought home under the DFA’s assisted repatriation program since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic through a total of 59 chartered flights and more than 1,200 commercial flights. END
