ASEAN Senior Officials hold first meeting for 2021; PH exhorts ASEAN Member States to review the mechanisms, processes and core values of ASEAN to ascertain its post-2025 vision

MANILA 20 January 2021 – Philippine Association to Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) SOM Leader and Acting Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso expressed support for Brunei Darussalam’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year at the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) held via video conference on 19 January 2021. 

During the meeting, Ambassador Buensuceso exhorted ASEAN Member States to review the mechanisms, processes, and core values of ASEAN to ascertain its post-2025 vision. She also noted that the continued strengthening of ASEAN’s areas of cooperation, including implementing ASEAN’s initiatives to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, is key to the region’s recovery.
