PASAY CITY 25 January 2021 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. formally received the newly arrived Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines Kim In-chul on the latter’s introductory call on 22 January 2021 at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Secretary Locsin extolled the seven decades of close friendship between the Philippines and Korea as “a special bond”, citing the shared sacrifice of Filipino and Korean soldiers during the Korean War.

The Secretary welcomed the steady expansion of relations into a dynamic, multifaceted partnership that spans trade and investment, development and infrastructure, defense cooperation, and people-to-people ties. “This relationship has been, and I believe will continue to be, an unshakable anchor in the Philippine transformative agenda,” said the Secretary.

Ambassador-Designate Kim similarly affirmed the robust Philippines-Korea bilateral relationship, as he committed to helping further elevate the relationship during his tenure.

Earlier this month, as part of his accreditation, the Ambassador-Designate presented open copies of his letters of credence to the Department’s Acting Chief of Protocol Porfirio M. Mayo, Jr., and paid a courtesy call on Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific Affairs Neal Imperial.

Prior to his assignment to the Philippines, Ambassador-designate Kim was most recently the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea. END
