DFA Statement on the Occasion of the 25th ASEM Day
MANILA, 01 March 2021 — The Philippines, as a founding member of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), extends its warm greetings to all 53 ASEM partners from Asia and Europe on the occasion of the 25thAnniversary of ASEM today.
Since its inception in 1996, ASEM continues to play its role as a platform for dialogue between Asia and Europe. The ASEM process acts as an incubator for new ideas and initiatives under its political, economic, and socio-cultural pillars, with the objective of strengthening the relationship between the two regions in the spirit of mutual respect and equal partnership.
With the world facing an unprecedented health and socio-economic crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, ASEM is in a unique position to serve as a venue in fostering greater cooperation between Asia and Europe to address this pressing global challenge.
The Philippines reiterates its commitment to closely work with its ASEM partners for a healthier and more prosperous future for the peoples of Asia and Europe. END
