Philippines calls for equitable access to safe and affordable vaccines during ASEAM Meeting

PASAY CITY 03 MARCH 2021—The Philippines, through Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Jaime Victor B. Leddarepresented the Philippines in the Asia-Europe Meeting Senior Officials’ Meeting Retreat held virtually last 01 to 02 March 2021 by this year’s host, Cambodia where partner countries and organizations from Asia and Europe discussed the preparations for the 13thASEM Summit (ASEM13) and tackled the key elements to be included in the Chair’s statement.

The Philippines underlined the importance of strengthening multilateralism for sustainable and inclusive socio-economic recovery and growth and this would be made possible by underscoring the role of migrant health workers in pandemic response and equitable access to safe and affordable vaccines. As the ASEM SOM-R coincided with the 25th anniversary of ASEM on 01 March, the SOM Leaders expressed hope that the ASEM continues to serve as a platform to bolster cooperation between the two regions and renewed their commitment to actively work with ASEM partners especially during this unprecedented global health crisis.
