Kazakhstan’s Ambassador-Designate Sarekenov Pays Virtual Courtesy Call on SFA Locsin

PASAY CITY 14 April 2021 — Kazakhstan’s Ambassador-designate Daniyar Sarekenov paid a virtual courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. on 07 April 2021. Both sides reaffirmed their governments’ commitment to further strengthening overall ties, both in bilateral cooperation and mutual support in international bodies.
Secretary Locsin expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s support to the Philippines in United Nations (UN) discussions. The Secretary also took the occasion to congratulate Kazakhstan for its current chairmanship in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and welcomed opportunities for greater interaction with Kazakhstan as an important partner of the Philippines in the Central Asian region.
Meanwhile, Ambassador-designate Sarekenov underscored the Philippines’ integral role in the security architecture of Asia and conveyed Kazakhstan’s interest to further enhancing economic cooperation with the Philippines.
The Philippines and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations on 19 March 1992 and are slated to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year. Ambassador-Designate Daniyar Sarekenov, who is currently based in Jakarta, is also the concurrent Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Indonesia and ASEAN. END
