ASEAN ASPAC 1

PASAY CITY 04 June 2021 – ASEAN Member States and the Republic of Korea (ROK) discussed the way forward for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the post-pandemic era during the recent Consultation Workshop on TVET Priority Sectors and Programmes for ASEAN- ROK TVET Mobility Programme, held via video conference on 28 May 2021.

TESDA Executive Director Rosalinda Constantino, representing the Philippines as inaugural chair of the ASEAN TVET Council (ATC), presented the ATC’s priority agenda in the post-pandemic period. Main objectives include strengthening labor market orientation toward TVET, improving TVET systems’ digital readiness and resilience to disruptions, and enhancing capacity of TVET personnel.

The study identified five TVET priority sectors for ASEAN: Manufacturing (electrical and electronics); Building construction; Automotive; Hospitality and Tourism; and Computer and Information Services.

For its part, Southeast Asian Technical and Vocational Education and Training (SEA-TVET) noted the marked increase in the number of participants in its academic exchange and mobility program. To adapt to the current circumstances, SEA-TVET is now moving toward an e-Mobility programme for students and teachers, and is developing a mechanism to allow institutions to sustain their collaboration through virtual means.
