20 May 2014 – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Head of Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, will undertake a Working Visit to the Philippines on 21-23 May 2014, upon the invitation of President Benigno S. Aquino III and in conjunction with his attendance in the World Economic Forum on East Asia (WEF-EA), to be hosted in Manila also on 21-23 May 2014.

 

Prime Minister Dung will meet with the President tomorrow, May 21, to discuss matters of mutual concern, including cooperative activities in defense, tourism, and trade and investment.

 

On May 22, Prime Minister Dung will be part of a panel including President Aquino and Myanmar Vice President U Nyan Tun at the Opening Plenary of the WEF-EA, where they will share their views on leveraging growth for equitable progress.

 

Viet Nam was the Philippines’ 18th trading partner in 2013, with total trade amounting to US$ 1.33 billion. It plays host to a 6,220-strong Filipino community, as well as several important Filipino companies, including Jollibee, San Miguel Brewery, Liwayway Industrial Food Corp., Ltd, and United Pharma, Inc.

 

This is the Prime Minister’s second visit to the Philippines, after his Official Visit on 9-10 August 2007. President Aquino undertook  a State Visit to Viet Nam on 26-27 October 2010. This was followed by a return visit by Viet Nam President Truong Tan Sang, Viet Nam’s Head of State, who conducted his State Visit to the Philippines on 26-28 October 2011. END
