27 July 2013 – The two-part Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Lecture Series ended last July 24 at the Bulwagang Apolinario Mabini with more than 300 attendees from the DFA and students from Miriam College, Cavite State University, Philippine Women’s University, Colegio San Agustin – Makati, and De La Salle – College of St. Benilde.
The guest speakers were Professor Ricardo T. Jose, Ph.D., director of the Third World Studies Center in the University of the Philippines, Mr. Marciano de Borja, Special Assistant from the Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (DFA-OUA), and Ambassador Alfredo L. Almendrala, Jr.
Prof. Jose shared his knowledge and expertise on the “Philippine Diplomacy during the Japanese Occupation”. Mr. de Borja spoke about the “State Department Boys and the Pioneers of the Philippine Foreign Service” and Ambassador Almendrala shared his experiences at the DFA when it was still located at Padre Faura Street in Manila.
The Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA) and the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) organized the DFA Lecture Series on Philippine Diplomatic History to complement the on-going DFA exhibit entitled “The Philippine Foreign Service: Its Beginnings” at the DFA main building which ran until July 26 It will then move to the Office of Consular Affairs at Aseana building along Macapagal Avenue from August 05 to 16.
