ny climate change

01 October 2014 - At the Informal ASEAN-US Ministerial Meeting on 26 September 2014 in New York and at the General Debate of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Philippines joined ASEAN and the United States in calling for low carbon economic growth trajectories and the building of more climate resilient societies.

This comes in the wake of President Benigno S. Aquino III’s address at the recent UN Climate Change Summit.

Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and US Secretary of State John Kerry exchanged views on developments in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process, highlighting the importance of both mitigation and adaptation measures.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario also expressed the hope that ASEAN-US cooperation will advance the global effort to ensure a successful outcome of the 21st Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC to be held in Paris in 2015, which is expected to finalize a new and comprehensive international legal framework on climate change.
