Egypt20 August 2013 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario who is visiting Cairo for the second time in two weeks for the purpose of assessing the security situation of Filipino nationals, raised Crisis Alert Level 4 over Egypt on August 19.

Secretary del Rosario said that the marked deterioration of peace and order in Egypt, exacerbated by the ongoing political instability and grave security challenges in that country, make working and living there increasingly difficult and dangerous.

Crisis Alert Level 4 entails mandatory repatriation at Philippine Government expense. A Rapid Response Team (RRT) arrived in Cairo on August 17 to assist in the implementation of the repatriation program.

On August 14, a Filipino-Egyptian teenager was hit by a stray bullet during clashes near her home in Helwan. The teenager seemed to be on the road to recovery and was in good spirits when she was visited by Secretary del Rosario, according to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Jesus I. Yabes and Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Claro Cristobal.

Secretary del Rosario calls on Filipino nationals in Egypt to contact the Philippine Embassy in Cairo immediately and to avail of its repatriation service.
