The Philippines, ASEAN, and Argentina Celebrate “ASEAN Day in Buenos Aires”

09 August 2017 BUENOS AIRES — The ASEAN Ambassadors in Argentina (the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Nam) and the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship co-hosted the ASEAN Day on August 08 commemorating the 50th anniversary of the foundation of ASEAN at the Manuel Belgrano Auditorium, Argentine MFA.
The celebration was attended by more than 150 guests from the diplomatic corps, business sector, the academe and the media. The three-minute video on the six thematic priorities of the Philippine Chairmanship of ASEAN was featured during the Program. The Philippines also provided ASEAN leaflets and other paraphernalia during the event.
In his remarks, Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi, who represented Argentina’s Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, welcomed the decision of the 50th ASEAN AMM´s to formally accept Argentina´s accession to ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC). He said that Argentina views ASEAN as an inspiration for regional integration and mentioned Argentina’s recent efforts when it held the Presidency of MERCOSUR for the convening of a MERCOSUR and ASEAN meeting on the sidelines of the UNGA.
One of the highlights of the celebration was a photo exhibit entitled “ASEAN in Argentina” showcasing the long engagement of ASEAN member states with Argentina. The Philippines’ exhibit included photos of the Paseo del Republica de Filipinas, a street in the city of Buenos Aires.
