Philippine Embassy in Doha Celebrates Asean@50
The 7 ASEAN ambassadors in Qatar in the traditional ASEAN handshake during the ASEAN@50 opening ceremony at the new Philippine School Doha campus last 15 August.
18 August 2017 - The Philippine Embassy in Doha celebrated the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) through the ASEAN Day celebration organized by the Philippine School Doha (PSD) on August 15 and the holding of the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD) Bowling Tournament on August 19.
The 7 Ambassadors from the ASEAN countries with missions in Doha, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, and Vietnam, attended the colorful ASEAN 50 celebration at the new PSD campus. The event started with the traditional flag-raising ceremony followed by the viewing of the different booths, prepared by PSD students and teachers, which showcase the unique cultural heritage of each ASEAN member country. The talented pool of PSD students entertained the guests with their spectacular song and dance presentations.
Philippine ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Alan Timbayan, echoed the message of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte during the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN celebration in Manila, "The Philippines will continue to work closely with our ASEAN brothers and sisters to ensure ASEAN’s legacy will be enjoyed by all our people in the region as we move onward to the next 50 years as partners for change positively engaging the larger world."
The Philippine Embassy also co-organized with the Indonesian Embassy the 2017 ACD Bowling tournament last Saturday, August 19 at the Qatar Bowling Center.
There were 3 game categories namely: Heads of Mission, Wives of the Heads of Mission and Team categories. For the team category, Philippines won the first prize for the 3rd consecutive year. Malaysia and Indonesia won 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The ASEAN Bowling tournament is part of the annual sporting events (including badminton and table tennis) organized by the ACD in order to help foster unity and promote friendly competition and closer cooperation among the ASEAN member countries in Qatar. END
