PHL Consulate General in Milan Attends First Simbang Gabi in Duomo

19 December 2017 MILAN — The Philippine Consulate General in Milan and in Northern Italy attended the first Simbang Gabi in Duomo at the invitation of the organizers composed of different Filipino religious groups and the Filipino community in Milan on December 15.


Thousands of our kababayans in Italy gathered at Duomo for the first simbang gabi, a Filipino Christmas tradition. The Philippine flag was featured at the pre-liturgical procession including the Italian colors. A Philippine parol was on display as a Filipino choir sang Tagalog songs throughout the liturgical celebration.

In her message, Consul General Marichu Mauro, thanked the organizers for inviting the Philippine Consulate General to participate in the Simbang Gabi, where representatives of the Philippine Consulate General in Milan took the lead in the offertory and acted as flagbearers. Consul General Mauro underscored that with the Simbang Gabi, Filipinos in Milan are given an opportunity to experience a major part of the Philippine Christmas tradition. She also conveyed her best wishes for the season to the members of the Filipino community who filled the Duomo.

The Simbang Gabi was celebrated by Archbishop of Milan, Msgr. Erminio de Calzi with the members of the Catholic clergy in Milan including a number of Filipino priests. END
