SINGAPORE 20 December 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore celebrated International Migrants Day and the Christmas season with more than 150 members of the Filipino Community in Singapore on 08 December 2018.

Ambassador to Singapore Joseph Del Mar Yap reported to the Filipino Community leaders on the highlights of the Embassy’s operations for the period January-November 2018. The Embassy has served an estimated 190,000 customers, rendering 110,103 consular service transactions and 102,423 labor service transactions.

The Ambassador, who assumed his duties as the Philippines’ envoy to Singapore in January 2018, summarized the key events of the year in the political, economic, cultural, community, assistance-to-nationals, consular and labor areas.

Ms. Lissy Ann Puno, a Filipino counselling psychologist based in Singapore, delivered a talk on overcoming homesickness this holiday season. She identified the stress factors affecting overseas migrants.

Voca Blendz, a Filipino choral group and soloist singers Dexter Dioquino and Ana Maria Catacutan filled the air with Christmas carols. Pagdiriwang 2018 singing contest winners Joseph Remo and Jineva Portia Lanario entertained the audience with original Pinoy songs.

Adults and children learned the craft of parol-making in a tutorial shared by University of the Philippines Alumni Association-Singapore President Ton Garcia.

The celebration culminated with a festive salo-salo potluck lunch. END
