PHL Embassy in Mexico Celebrates Independence Day 2017

15 June 2017 MEXICO – Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Eduardo Jose A. de Vega led the celebration of the 119th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence with a ceremony at the José Rizal monument in Mexico City.
Four other resident Ambassadors in Mexico from ASEAN, namely, Indonesian Ambassador Yusra Khan, Malaysian Ambassador Mohamad Azhar bin Mazlan, Vietnamese Ambassador Le Lin Lanh, and Thai Ambassador Rommanee Kananurak, represented by First Secretary Nadariya Nopakun, were invited as special guests to the ceremony.
Ambassador de Vega and the embassy staff, along with their dependents, sang “Lupang Hinirang” and “Pilipinas Kong Mahal” at the monument, accompanied by a floral offering.
The ambassador then delivered a rendition from memory of the final stanza from Rizal’s “Mi Ultimo Adiós” and explained the poem’s meaning and significance to the foreign guests.
The ceremony at the Rizal monument was followed by a reception for the Filipino community at the Ambassador’s official residence the following day. The occasion was marked by a reading of the Independence Day messages from Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano. The Filipino community then spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying Filipino food, music, and dance with the members of the Embassy.
