Montreal Launches Tagalog Translation of the Charter of Rights and Responsibilities

Ottawa

15 June 2017 OTTAWA — Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia, with His Worship, the Honorable Denis Coderre (Mayor of Montreal), Executive Committee Member M. Lionel Peres, Burrough Mayor Russel Copeman (Cote-de-Nege), Councillor Marvin Rotrand, and Filipino Canadian Citizens of Montreal during the launching of the Tagalog translation of the Montreal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities held at the Hotel de Ville de Montreal on June 13. The translation is a strong, unequivocal signal that Filipinos are part of the very fabric that defines Montreal with the Filipino-Canadian community as the third largest immigrant community and the Philippines as the biggest source of new immigrants into Canada. There are more than 70,000 Filipinos in the province of Quebec. The unveiling coincides with many milestones, the 375th anniversary of Montreal, the 150th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, and the 119th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.
