PHL Embassy Recalls Shared Heritage and Reaffirms Ties with Chile
Philippine Embassy Santiago with Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Corps during the vin d' Honneur in celebration of the Philippines' 119th Independence Day
20 June 2017 SANTIAGO, CHILE — Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim Marcos Punsalang recalled the support given by one of Chilean’s founding fathers, Bernardo O’Higgins, in the Philippines’ fight for independence from Spain in his remarks to the diplomatic corps during the Embassy’s vin d'Honneur for the 119th Anniversary of Philippine Independence held on June 112 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Santiago, Chile.
Chargé d’Affaires Punsalang also highlighted the existing cooperation between the Chile and the Philippines, including the Memorandum of Understanding on Disaster Risk Cooperation and the growing investment of Philippine company Energy Development Corporation in the geothermal fields of Chile.
About a hundred guests, including Chief of Protocol Ambassador Gloria Navarrete attended the event. It opened with the national anthems of Chile and the Philippines sung by 17-year-old soloist Francisca Diaz and a Filipino Community choir, respectively. Guests enjoyed Filipino food and a cultural performance in the form of tinikling, performed by members of the community, whose introduction served as an acknowledgment of the rapidly growing Filipino Community in Chile.
