 Ottawa 2

15 June 2017 OTTAWA — Filipinos in Ottawa gathered at the Ottawa City Hall parade ground today to celebrate the 119th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence. In a simple ceremony, the Philippine flag was hoisted as the audience sang the Philippine national anthem followed by the Canadian national anthem.

Representing the Mayor of the City of Ottawa, His Worship Jim Watson, Deputy Mayor Mark Taylor, together with distinguished Members of the Canadian Parliament Hon. Peter Fonseca, Hon. She noted that the ceremony honors those who fought and fell in the battlefield as well as those who tirelessly worked over the years to build the Philippines’ democratic institutions, expand the economy, and raise the Philippines as a worthy member of the international community.

The Ambassador also highlighted the significance of having this flag-raising ceremony in Canada, which is home to more than 700,000 Filipinos.
