Passaic, New Jersey Holds 30th Philippine Independence Parade

19 June 2017 NEW YORK — The Filipino-American Community in Northern New Jersey held its 30th Philippine Day Parade and Cultural Showcase in Passaic City on June 11.
The event was attended by Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega, Linda Arellano, a contingent from the Philippine Consulate General and President of the Filipino-American Association of Northern New Jersey, Congressman Bill Pascrell of the 9th District of New Jersey, Assemblyman Gary Schaer, and other local officials and members of the Filipino-American Community from the Tri-state area.
The Philippine Day Parade is one of the longest-running Philippine commemorative events in the US Northeast.
Aside from the parade, other activities included the solemn re-dedication of the Veterans Memorial in the 3rd Ward Memorial Park with a floral offering made by Consul General Dizon-De Vega and Jersey Council President Rolando Lavarro.
Another highlight of the event was a tribute to Philippine Day Parade Founder Carlos Sinnung who passed away in 2016. The tribute was led by Congressman Pascrell with Mrs. Elizabeth Sinnung and members of the Sinnung family in attendance.
Consul General Dizon-De Vega acknowledged the contributions of the Filipino-American community to both the Philippines and their respective communities in the United States.
Passaic is home to around 4,000 Filipinos and is in close proximity to other Filipino Communities in Bergen County.
