19 June 2017 ROME — The Philippine Embassy in Rome celebrated the 119th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and 70th anniversary of Philippine and Italian diplomatic relations with government officials, diplomatic corps members, think tanks, academe, and private sector on June 12 at the Westin Excelsior Rome.

"The theme of our independence day celebration this year is "Pagbabagong Sama-Samang Balikatin" or "Partnering Together for Change," to highlight that change should come from close cooperation to achieve mutual benefits. The theme is timely because this year we also celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Italy," said Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco.

The Ambassador highlighted that the Philippines and Italy have been working together to deepen collaboration in areas of politics, economy, and people-to-people ties. These include the recent establishment of Philippines-Italy political consultations mechanism, growing two-way trade, continuing development cooperation, support for the peace process, and excellent integration of the Filipino community in Italy.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Senator Benedetto Della Vedova said cooperation between the Philippines and Italy is growing and both countries have opportunities to further expand cooperation in renewable energy, agriculture, manufacture of machineries, and defense.

In partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Embassy also took the opportunity to promote Philippine tourism by distributing promotional materials and presenting tourism videos in two giant screens.
