PHL Embassy in Beijing, PHL Consulate General in Chongqing Jointly Hold Diplomatic Reception to Celebrate 119th Anniversary of PHL Independence

28 June 2017 BEIJING — The Philippine Embassy in Beijing and the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing jointly hosted for the first time a diplomatic reception to celebrate the 119th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

Philippine Ambassador to China, Mr. Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana, opened the Filipino Food Festival organized by the Shangri-La Hotel in Chengdu, which flew in two Filipino Chefs from Shangri-La Makati, Chefs Jose Dominador Tabangcay III and Jeorge Martin Alejandro.

Ambassador Sta. Romana highlighted this year’s theme of “Pagbabago Sama-samang Balikatin,” emphasizing the importance of unity and solidarity in advancing reforms towards ideals and aspirations. He said that all sectors of Philippine society have joined hands in working towards the goal of a law-abiding and inclusive Philippines.

Director General Mu Xinhai, the Guest of Honor, extended his greetings to the Filipinos who have dedicated themselves to the friendly exchanges between Sichuan and the Philippines.  He said that the Philippines is not only one of China’s neighboring countries, it is also an important partner in China’s Belt and Road initiative.

Popular Filipino dishes were prepared by the Filipino chefs, including embutido, sisig tiyan ng salmon, gambas ajillo, chicken adobo, lumpia, lechon, relyenong manok, and Filipino desserts like turon, ube cake, palitaw, pichi-pichi, sapin-sapin, buko salad and brazo de Mercedes.
