PH Independence Day Celebrated for the First Time in UAE’s Smallest Emirate
DUBAI 20 June 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and over 1,500 members of the Filipino community gathered at China Mall in Umm Al Qwain on 11 May 2018, as the smallest Emirate in the UAE hosts its first Philippine Independence Day celebration.
Among the segments of the celebration included the Parade of Fiestas, Pera o Bayong, Battle of the Bands, and many others.
Philippine Consul General Paul Raymund P. Cortes had long encouraged the various communities in the other emirates to organize celebrations in their areas, in addition to participating in the Dubai celebrations, where record breaking crowds of 25,000 attended both in 2016 and in 2017.
Last year, Ras Al Khaimal, the UAE’s northernmost Emirate, staged independence day celebrations in July, making it first time the northern emirates organized such an event.
In 2018, apart from Dubai, the other Emirates will also be staging independence day celebrations – in Ras Al Khaimah by early July, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujariah between July and August. END
