Independence Day with Filipino Community in Surabaya

SUBARAYA 05 June 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Indonesia celebrated the 120th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, with the Filipino Community in Surabaya, at the Fave Hotel in Surabaya on 03 June 2018.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Lee Hiong Tan Wee said that the Independence Day event in Surabaya is significant to him and his spouse, Madam Rosalind Wee, as it is their first official activity since arriving in Indonesia on 31 May 2018. Ambassador Wee, reflecting on this year’s Independence Day theme---Pagbabagong ipinaglaban, Alay sa masaganang kinabukasan---invited the Filipinos to be the agents of change.
The Ambassador likewise commended the Filipino Community in Surabaya, led by Mr. Ed Fuentes, for organizing a disaster preparedness group following the spate of bombings in Surabaya. He also reiterated the Embassy’s commitment to help Filipinos in need of assistance by drawing attention to the Embassy’s 24-hour hotline, and active social media engagement.
The Independence Day commemoration was a celebration of Philippine music with the heartwarming rendition of Lea Salonga’s Tagumpay Nating Lahat and Hotdog Band’s Manila. The nearly 100 guests were also entertained by dances from Southern Philippines. END
