PH Embassy in Washington D.C. Kicks off Kalayaan 2018 Activities with Consular Services, Free Seminars

WASHINGTON, D.C. 13 June 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C., USA marked the start of the weeklong celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence with consular services and free seminars under the theme, “Paglilingkod at Pagdiriwang sa Araw ng Kalayaan 2018” on 10 June 2018 at the Chancery Annex Building.

Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez led the flag-raising ceremony in the morning, prior to the commencement of the day’s program.

Throughout the day, consular services such as passport application, civil registration, and legalization of documents were extended to Filipinos in the U.S. capital. Overseas voter registration, as well as transactions with the Philippine Social Security System and Pag-IBIG Fund, were likewise accepted.

“We are pleased to celebrate our Independence Day with our kababayans in a manner that would truly be of benefit to them. Effective public service is one of the blessings of independence and democracy,” said Ambassador Romualdez.

An estimated 420,000 Filipinos live under the Embassy’s jurisdiction, which includes the District of Columbia and the state of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. END
