Guam Declares June 2018 as PH Independence Month

AGANA 06 June 2018 - Acting Governor of Guam Ray Tenorio signed on 01 June 2018 Proclamation No. 2018-63, declaring the month of June 2018 as Philippine Independence Month in honor of Filipino-Guamanians.

The proclamation was received by Consul General in Guam Marciano R. de Borja and the Filipino Community in Guam (FCG), the umbrella organization of Filipino associations in the U.S. territory.

The event was held at Agana Shopping Center, one of the biggest businesses on Guam and a partner of FCG in its various activities.

The proclamation highlights the longstanding close and historical ties between the Philippines and Guam, and signals the start of the month-long activities in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence by the Consulate General, and the different Filipino organizations on Guam led by the FCG.

In line with the theme, “Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan (Independence 2018: Change We Fought For, An Offering To An Abundant Future),” Consul General de Borja expressed his appreciation to the Government of Guam for recognizing the Filipino contribution to the good of their community.

The signing of the proclamation was attended by Senator Frank Aguon Jr. of the 34th Guam Legislature, Mr. Norman Analista, FCG President, FCG Board of Directors, and other officers and members of the different Filipino organizations in Guam.  END
