PH Consulate General in Guangzhou Hosts PH Independence Day Reception

GUANGZHOU 21 June 2018 — The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou brought together guests from local government, the Guangzhou Consular Corps and the Filipino community, at a diplomatic reception in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence on 11 June 2018 at the LN Garden Hotel.

In attendance were the Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr. Ouyang Weimin; the Vice Chairperson of the Guangzhou People’s Political Consultative Conference, Ms. Li Jin; the Director General of the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, Mr. Chen Quiyan; officials from Guangzhou, Hainan Province, Nanning and Baise Municipalities in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, leaders from Filipino community organizations, and consul generals from across the Guangzhou Consular Corps.

Philippine Consul General Marshall Louis M. Alferez delivered remarks that took note of achievements under the current administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, as well as the warming ties between the Philippines and China.

The Consul General also took the opportunity to highlight the engagements between the Philippines and the four provinces under the consulate general’s jurisdiction – Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan and Hainan – and called for increased exchanges in a variety of fields.

Vice Governor Weimin also gave a speech delivered remarks, and underscored the importance of the current close bilateral relationship between the Philippines and China, as well as the various exchanges and cooperative activities.

Various tourism clips from Philippine Airlines and the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board were aired throughout the night, especially showcasing other Philippine destinations, such as Cebu, Dumaguete and Palawan.

Guests enjoyed a combination of Filipino and Chinese dishes, which included sotanghon soup, beef caldereta, embutido, chicken inasal, pancit bihon, turon, and halo-halo. Roasted suckling pig (lechon de leche) was also served pritchon-style, in the manner of Peking Duck.

Guests also sampled Paradise Mango Rum, as well as various San Miguel beer products, and received giveaways courtesy of the Philippine Tourism Office-Shanghai, the China-Philippines Chamber of Commerce, and Liwayway Corporation.

Prior to the reception, the Consulate General also launched, in cooperation with FilKam, a photography exhibit entitled “Philippines and Guangzhou Through FilKam’s Lens.” FilKam is a Filipino organization composed of Filipino photography enthusiasts based in Guangzhou.

The exhibit featured scenes and views from around the Philippines and Guangzhou, and was exhibited around the grand ballroom that was used for the reception. END
