PH Embassy in Tokyo Premieres Movie on OFWs in Japan

TOKYO KASARINLAN

TOKYO 28 June 2018 – As part of the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence, Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel V and Labor Attache Marie Rose C. Escalada led the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the premiere showing of “Kasarinlan,” a movie jointly produced by the Philippine Labor Office (POLO) and the Filipino Community in Japan and directed by Joey Manalang on 10 June 2018.

The movie features the joys and struggles of Filipinos in Japan, and hopes to inspire the younger generations of Filipino-Japanese to be proud of their Filipino heritage and culture.

The movie is the culminating activity of the successful acting workshop conducted by POLO, and a true testament to the collaborative efforts of the members of the Filipino Community in Japan.

The film showing was immediately followed by a feast of Filipino food and drinks, and musical performances from some of the best singers among the Filipino community. At least 300 Filipino and Japanese guests graced the successful premiere. END
