Filipinos Celebrate First-Ever June 12 Event in Istanbul

ANKARA 28 June 2018 — Filipino, Turkish and other foreign guests joined the first-ever Philippine Independence Day celebration in Istanbul, Turkey’s economic, cultural and historic center, at an event organized by the Filipino Community at Haliç University on 17 June 2018.

The event brought together various recognized Filipino organizations in Istanbul: Filipino Community in Turkey, Duterte Diehard Supporters, FilCom Istanbul–Road to Love, Filipino Students in Turkey, Kabalikat Civicom, Golden Women, Budz Gurls, and the Filipino Medical Team Istanbul. 

The Filipino Community in Istanbul held a Philippine Food Fiesta showcasing popular Filipino dishes, followed by a cultural program which featured traditional dances and games from the Philippines. 

Members of the Filipino Community in Istanbul participated in the program with the much-applauded rendition of the pandanggo sa ilaw, cariñosa, maglalatik, and bakya. The program also featured a cultural fashion show with the Pinoy Kids of Istanbul and a reading of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s “Mi Ultimo Adios” by the Filipino students in Turkey.

Members of the Filipino Community in Ankara, Turkey’s capital, also took part in the festivities through their performance of the Fiipino folk dance, tinikling.

Filipinos at the event proudly waved Filipino flags at the end of festivities capped by community singing and dancing to the Filipino song, “Pinoy Ako.” END
